It's A Girl!!!

A week ago we had an ultrasound done and even though I was only 16 weeks along they were able to tell us if we are having a boy or a girl and it's a GIRL! We are very excited and can't wait to meet her in September.

Since we found out that we are having a girl we have been busy shopping; checking out strollers and cribs and all that you need to welcome a baby into the house. It is a little difficult being in Hawaii because there aren't tons of stores to choose from but I think we did pretty good. We found a great stroller at a local baby store and a crib and changing table at Babies' R' Us. After a full day of research and hunting for things we love I got home and got to work on our registries. So many family members kept asking because they are so excited for this little girl to arrive. If anybody is interested in where we registered feel free to ask.

Family and friends have also been asking for some baby bump photos so I finally got around to that this week as well. This is just a test shot so there will be more to come. I will be taking one photo a week so that I can see the progression. This is at 17 weeks (which was Monday) and I feel like over night I doubled in size so next weeks photos should be fun to compare.
Last, I couldn't help but include this adorable photo of my first baby, Kai. She was very intrigued by the camera and wanted to get in on the action.
For now it is just me, Kai and the baby bump. Gil is training on the big island until May. We are trying to stay busy and continue to eat well. We will have another doctors appoint when Gil gets back home. I can't wait to see how much she and myself have grown by then!

Take Care!

Baby D Update

Baby D is about the size of an avocado now!

It just amazes me each week as I read what is going on and how Baby D is developing. This week they say the tiny bones are forming in their ears which means they will start to pick up on your voice. Their taste buds are forming which means they are now tasting what your are eating and most exciting an ultrasound may be able to determine the gender!

We had a doctor's appointment yesterday and I was very happy that Gil was able to go. It makes it more special when he is actually home and able to go through it with me. We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time which was amazing. The midwife said that it is very strong and I should be able to feel Baby D moving soon!

She gave us the paper work to get a more in depth ultrasound done where they will check all of the anatomy of Baby D and make sure everything is developing correctly. On top of that we may be finding out the gender. They were able to fit us in tomorrow! So, we are waking up bright and early for a 7am appointment and hopefully we will come home with a big announcement! We are very excited and can't wait to find out what we are having.

This weekend we will be doing some baby shopping since we will finally know what we are having. I can't wait to start buying little baby things! I bought my first baby onesie this past week. I saw it in a local boutique which is all about organic and natural materials and products and I just couldn't get it out of my mind so I went back the next day and bought it.
Lately I have been feeling really well. Most of the bad symptoms have subsided. I had, had a constant headache since my birthday but in the past few days it has almost completely gone away which is nice. Even better, I am feeling better and Gil is finally home! He got home on Friday from his 5 week mortar school in GA. He is only home for about a week but it is nice either way.

Well check back later this week to find out if we are having a boy or a girl!

7 weeks

As of Wednesday I will be 7 weeks pregnant and Baby Gibby is the size of a blueberry.
We have our first appointment on the 19th and I am very excited about that. I still plan to change from going to the Army hospital to the local hospital in town. It is a lot closer and they have a brand new maternity ward.

I have started to feel pregnant. Most days I don't feel so great but we are getting through it. Mostly eating very bland food like crackers and waffles. I look forward to the day that Gil and I can eat the same meal for dinner, together.

So we decided to give our baby a nickname so we don't call him or her, it for 9 months. In honor of Gil we will be calling baby, Gibby until future notice. It is a name that Gil has used for various things and it just seemed cute and appropriate for the time being.

I had a very nice surprise yesterday when Gil got home. He had a gift for us from our friends, Lane and Genevieve. They had a nice card for us and a book titled The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy, Or Everything Your Doctor Won't Tell You. It was a very nice surprise and I look forward to reading it. Gil has already read through the chapter on how to deal with your pregnant woman. It seemed to find most of it funny but he has been really great so far.

Well that is all for now. I look forward to updating again after our doctors appointment.

Baby Appleseed

I found a great article on thebump.com about the size of your baby as it develops and what your baby is up to. I couldn't have found a better reference because they relate the size of your baby to food. I will be referring to this for the next 9 months.

It just fascinates me what is going on inside of me right now.

Right now baby is starting to form major organs like the heart, kidney, liver and stomach. That is just crazy! There is a heart growing inside of me!

I mentioned this to Gil and he said "well, yeah. Didn't you take science in school. It's the miracle of life."

Well, yes I took science and I get all that but it is different when it is happening to YOU! I just think it is the coolest thing!

Two Pink Lines

On January 22, 2010 I nervously took a test and was very happy and relieved to see two pink lines! Almost immediately we called our parents. For mine it was 1 am but my dad was leaving the next day for 5 months and we wanted them to be together when we told them. Next was Gil's parents. We tried over and over again and nobody was home. We finally tried them one last time before we went to bed and they knew right away why we were calling. Both sets of parents or should I say grandparents are very excited.

We knew we wanted to get pregnant and had been trying and this was our last opportunity if we wanted to have Gil home for the birth. We enjoyed the weekend thinking of all that is to come. I of course began researching what week I was in and the development of our little pea; Gil went straight to finances to see what we need to do to be ready.

We didn't want to tell any other friends or family until we got it confirmed by a doctor. We waited 5 long days before we told the rest of our family and close friends. As we expected they are all very excited.

So as you can imagine my mind has had nothing but BABIES on it! All I want to do right now is buy cute little baby things. I am hoping it will wear off so I can get some other things done because right now I don't want to do anything but baby stuff.

That is all for now. I can't wait for week 12 so I can announce it to the rest of the world and by then I will have also had my first doctors appointment!
